Ancient One
2012
The piece itself is from a new series called the "Archaeological's", and is called "The Ancient One" -- I hope you can see the face in the lower middle right -- in the piece itself, it is quite visible.
In conceiving of the piece, I kept going back to all those National Geographic stories I read as a kid, documenting the stuff that people dig up from archaeological digs: personal adornments, weapons, everyday items, etc. This piece is my take on an oversized piece of pretty stone that a long-ago ancestor might pick up, drill a hole in, and then wear. (Privately, I call it “JFG”- Jewelry For Giants!).
The piece (and this whole series to date) represents some of the most technically challenging work I have ever done: four different glasses, difficult mold making, multiple castings, and extended polishing challenges.
I hope you like the series and work. I do!
